Netbook keyboards
Netbook keyboard is much smaller than the usual one.
Not surprisingly, that the netbook keyboard is even smaller than those on the notebooks. And the smaller the netbook, the smaller the keyboard.
Some manufacturers use limited space very well, though the keyboard installation is occurred over the entire surface.
Because of the limited amount of available space, you'll probably find that the keys on the netbook keyboard are closer to each other.
Some keys could also be moved to accommodate all, while others - usually, the cursor keys and right Shift - may have been reduced in size.
Since the keyboard is integrated into the body of the netbook, you'll find that it's not as convenient as using desktop keyboard, which can be moved.
It's a good idea to try before buying a netbook keyboard, make sure that you will get one that suits your needs.
Though their size and weight make them ideal portable devices, it does not mean that you can not use the netbook at home. If it is so, you always have a great opportunity to connect the keyboard and mouse to make things more convenient.
Which 10-inch netbooks have the best keyboard?
If you are going to buy a netbook, what is the first factor in making your decision? How does it look like? Or maybe the price? Some people can forget that one of the most important things is the design of keyboard.
They are blinded by aesthetics, but later realize that it is not fun, using their netbook. Moving to the keyboard from the host computer to a portable computer can be disoriented for fingers.
Here's a rundown of famous netbooks and their keyboards, which I suppose can be useful for those who are planning a purchase. I choose only the top 10-inch multi-vendor here and will not consider those who are with a delicate design.
Netbook MSI Wind U120 keyboard
Keyboard for U120 MSI Wind is the same as the original one, which has overall good design. The main dimensions are normal, but the distance is a little small. Note that the Page Down, Page Up, Home and End are included in the arrow keys.
It would be good if the position of the Fn and Ctrl-left can be switched.
Netbook Acer Aspire AOD150 keyboard
Acer AOD150 keyboard layout is very similar to the Wind, but at this time they did the Fn and left Ctrl in their normal position. Tab a little small, but they picked out the Page Down and Page Up and gave normal-size for right Shift.
Netbook Lenovo IdeaPad S10 keyboard
In the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 there is a fairly compact keyboard, which can be rather difficult to use for people with large fingers.
Friend says that placing right Shift, often leads to the accidental release to the up-arrow key. It also has the similar problem with respect to Fn and left Ctrl, as
Netbook MSI Wind.
Page Down and Page Up keys are situated along the function keys, which is typical for notebooks with a normal size.
UPDATE: Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 gave a major upgrade to the keyboard, which has become more and more spacious.
Netbook Dell Inspiron Mini 10 keyboard
Keyboard of the Inspiron Mini 10 has a huge upgrade from the 9-inch version. They even include the missing function keys from the Mini 9.
The keys are large and they are felt like a regular keyboard. Page Down and Page Up keys are in the down/ up.
Netbook Asus Eee PC 1000HE keyboard
Asus 1000HE has a keyboard-style chicklet, which is seen rarely on the notebooks which are not made by Sony or Apple. Layout - it's also a huge step compared to previous versions of its 10-inch netbooks.
Right Shift a bit small, but it is on the right side of the key Up Arrow. Page Up, Page Down, Home and End are included in the arrows, like in MSI, but note that the right Fn key permits you to use them only on one side.
Netbook HP Mini 2140 keyboard
Keyboard HP Mini 2140 is one of the most promising at present time. The keys are large and well located, so you'll have no problems with the adjusting. They also have the "HP DuraKeys" with finishing, allowing the letters to be printed for a long time.
If there's one thing to comment it is that its left and right touchpad buttons are oddly placed on both sides.
Netbook Samsung NC10 keyboard
Samsung NC10 has a 93% full size keyboard, and provides good feedback during typing. The keys are good and big, including full-size right Shift, it is like the Dell Mini 10 and the HP Mini 2140, the Page Up and Page Down are identified.
Conclusion:
If you are looking for a netbook that has a better keyboard, the hands must be inclined in front of the HP Mini 2140. Closely follow in terms of similarities Dell Inspiron Mini 10 and Samsung NC10. Points should go to Asus 1000HE because of its unique style chiclet.
And now when you know how the keyboard looks, you can weigh your options based on its appearance, battery life, and your budget.
Netbooks with a full size keyboard, the best options.
Netbooks are small, most are produced with a fairly tight keyboard, not so big as the ones you would get from a standard notebook. This is not a problem for me, but if you have large fingers typing on a keyboard can be uncomfortable.
That is why in this letter I'm going to present you that netbooks with 100% full size keyboard you can get. First, what does it mean? According to Wikipedia, for the normal, "full size" keyboard for computer, there are 10 keys Q-R-sized 190 mm (7.48 inches). Small 7.9-inch netbooks are usually offered 82% from normal size, it means that QP key size 155 mm (6.10 inches). 10 - inch typically offer 92% from the full-size keyboard where the key size of QP is 175 mm (6.89 inches). These a few mm may be seemed small, but in practice they make a difference.
So the options.
At first, you need to know that there could not be 8.9-inch or even smaller mini-notebooks which are produced with a full keyboard, it would be physically impossible.
In popular 10-inch class, most netbooks are delivered with a 92% or 95% from keyboards. But there are some versions with full of them:
Toshiba NB205, Toshiba NB305 of new ranges. They suggest perhaps the best keyboard for the 10-inch netbook right now, with independent keys and a very good metallic finishing. Plus, you will get corresponding high quality sensory panel. In fact, I own Toshiba NB205 and NB305 is at the top of my list of the best 10-inch netbooks that you can buy at the moment.
Samsung N120 gained from this function. However, the keyboard is standard and flat, so it is not so good as above.
And about this right now, in a 10-inch class. As you can see there are very few versions and only one should be taken into account: Toshiba Mini NB305.
As for 11.6 or 12.1-inch netbooks, the majority of them are appeared with full-size keyboard in these classes, and now there is enough space for such function.
So, if you want a big keyboard on the mini-notebook, either choose a viable version in a 10-inch class or look for something bigger, where you have more opportunities.
